Beginner Basics: Learn to Sew with Knits Course SEP-OCT DAY

So you’re a beginner sewer who’s getting into making their own wardrobe, but you’ve quickly realised just how many garments are actually made with knit fabrics and you’re lacking the confidence to give it a try. By joining this short 5-week course, I’ll level up your general home sewing skills so that you can get to making t-shirts, dresses, leggings and beyond!

Sewing with knit and stretch fabrics requires a different set of techniques than sewing with stable woven fabrics. In this beginner-friendly sewing course, Eliza will use her 25 years of sewing experience to help you build on your existing skill base, adding new techniques and terminologies for knit garment sewing and guide you through making a t-shirt!

SKILL LEVEL AND ELIGIBILITY:

This course is suitable for adults and children 10 years + who can confidently and safely operate a sewing machine. Children aged between 10 and 15 years must be accompanied by an adult. If the accompanying adult intends to participate, they must also purchase the course. If the accompanying adult will stay for supervision only, they are not required to purchase the course. Children under 10 years old are not eligible.

WHAT TO BRING:

• a positive attitude to sewing.
• the sewing machine that you would like to learn with (optional).
• personal sewing equipment that you would like to practice with (optional).
• drinks of your choice (if preferred over beverages provided).

WHAT IS PROVIDED:

• teas, coffee bags, hot chocolate, sweet treats.
• sewing machines (per your booking).
• sewing tools.
• fabrics and all notions required.
• sewing expertise and a creative environment.

DETAILS:

This course runs for a total of 12.5 hours over 5 sessions. Feel free to book two spots and bring along a friend, your partner or capable kiddo to learn together. Please ensure that you are available for all sessions as the tickets are non-transferrable nor refundable.

DECIDING WHAT COURSE IS RIGHT FOR YOU:

This course is best suited for sewers who can confidently and safely operate a sewing machine and are looking to build up your sewing skill set. Perhaps you have completed the Beginner Basics: Learn to Sew course with me and looking to progress, or you might be a self taught beginner or experienced sewer looking to polish up a few skills and take your knit fabric sewing to the next level.

Due to the succinct nature of this course, I do not teach the fundamentals in how to operate a sewing machine. This is relied on as assumed knowledge, especially if you’re bringing your own sewing machine, If you’re opting to borrow a sewing machine and, I will provide you with brief guidance where necessary on things such as where dials and levers are located to get you going.
